New Year New Floors!
Maybe you are itching to put down some new laminate flooring in your kitchen. Or maybe a more drastic project like ripping up carpets and laying down real wood flooring is what you’re hoping to do. Whenever the Christmas decorations come down, it always feels like a natural next step to improve or change some part of the home.
Laminate flooring seems to have no good argument against it these days. It’s hard wearing, durable, and looks fantastic. For families with a lot of high traffic and activity in the home, it can be a mother’s dream not having to worry about carpet stains and simply having to sweep and mop to keep the look of the room gleaming. Yet modern houses often still go for a blanket of neutral cheap carpets throughout the home, and either tiles or laminate flooring in the kitchen. It’s older homes that often rip up the carpeting and put down alternative types of flooring.
For those who opt for the easy care laminate flooring, they may not have to worry about red wine spilling or muddy footprints, but often people find houses without carpeting feel al little cold. This is where rugs come in. Yet rugs can be expensive if they are good quality or cover a large area. Even cheap rugs may cost more than initially expected.
It’s really down to personal taste. There will always be those who prefer carpets and would happily vacuum every day than have to dust and mop! Yet to others carpets feel like a never quite clean pool of dust where hard flooring can be properly cleaned and much easier to live with if you have allergies.
Your new decorating plans may require a high powered vacuum cleaner that goes after allergens and dust that will keep your carpets looking fresh with a build in carpet shampooing system as well. Or you may be in the market for a good broom and a dusting spray, as well as a good mop! It really is down to personal taste, budget, and family needs, and not so much about following trends or a right or wrong in decorating.
