A lot of new kitchens come with new appliances and modern touches, yet more and more people when buying a new kitchen are focusing on kitchen worktops as instead of just getting exciting about their new cooker. People love the idea of spending time cooking and entertaining in their kitchen and so they are looking for more aesthetic appeal as well as functionality.

For those looking for cheap kitchen worktops, laminate worktops are probably the best value for money. They can mimic the look of granite, marble, and stone, while being robust and waterproof. They are easy to clean and resistant t most household chemicals. They are also fitted easily and can make a good DIY project.

The least expensive option when it comes to going down the stone route is 100% granite. They look absolutely gorgeous, but are possibly a little bit more difficult to maintain as granite is a porous substance and you need to be careful with what sort of cleaners you use on it, and beware of staining from red wine. Granite cannot be moulded, however when it’s finished they look gorgeous on kitchen islands and breakfast bars.

Quartz worktops are made from about 90% stone mixed with acrylic resin and colour pigments. Silestone Worktops are a popular brand of Quartz worktops and people choose quartz as little specialist care is needed. Unlike granite it is non-porous . Its durable, hard wearing, heat, scratch, and stain resistant. It’s also beautiful as crystalline quartz particles reflect the light.

The most expensive worktops available are made from Corian which is 70% stone mixed with acrylic resin and colour pigments. It is very easy to maintain and repair as stains and scratches can just be sanded out. It can also be moulded to create contemporary designs and can incorporate fully integrated sinks and drainers. It’s also a lot lighter than stone.
