Vallarta weather

Puerto Vallarta Mexico is located in the state of Jalisco, on the Pacific Coast of Mexico, halfway in the Banderas Bay, and 8 miles south of Nuevo Vallarta in the Riviera Nayarit, in the adjacent state of Nayarit.

Located on the same latitude as Hawaii (20 degrees north), Puerto Vallarta’s weather is what’s classic for tropical climate, with extremely constant temperatures and humidity all the year round. The stormy season is roughly from June to Sep, with most rain in Sep, and a small amount, if any rainfall the remainder of the year. Even in the stormy season, precipitation often arrives in abrupt moments of powerful rain, usually at nighttime, and the rest of the day is usually hot and dry.

The city of Puerto Vallarta has routinely been spared by hurricanes and storms, locals even hypothesize that the Bahia de Banderas (Banderas Bay) in some shape was a natural protecting barrier from these damaging storms, but this wasn't the case in the year 2002 when Kenna crashed into San Blas and seriously damaged Vallarta, since that point a new hurricane came by very close in 2011, but didn’t hit the town. So in the last forty years Vallarta has only once been damaged by a hurricane, so you are quite safe when it comes to tropical hurricanes destroying your vacation in Puerto Vallarta or Nuevo Vallarta.

December to April, the peak traveller season, are hot and bright. Weather in Spring and Autumn offers comfortable temperatures. Though precipitation can spoil a day at the beach, tropical storms can be rather a spectacle, rain seems to march across the hills and the sea, and lightning bolts brighten the sky. Temperatures reach 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32 Celcius) during the summer, and the humidity can add to the perception of heat.

During the winter, the climate changes considerably and temperatures move into the low to mid 80 degrees Fahrenheit (28-30 degrees Celcius), quite good for a stroll along the beach. Nighttime temperatures in Puerto Vallarta and Nuevo Vallarta range from the 60′s to the mid 70′s (19-24 Celcius).
