If you are not familiar with the term, feral cats are those that live out in the street. These orphaned cats make up 1/2 of the domesticated pet population, and they can be a pain if you reside in the city. Dealing with these cats is a problem that costs businesses thousands and loses customers all year long.
Older cats will appreciate a heated bed; you can use a heated tile to create one! A terra cotta tile heated in your oven on about 200 degrees and for 15 minutes will do. Place it in an older towel and place it underneath of the feline’s bed. If necessary, change this out every few hours.
If you own a female cat, it’s crucial to spay it at the appropriate age. Even if she spends her time indoors, it is possible for her to escape while in heat, causing an unwanted pregnancy. If you want to prevent this, spay your cat.
Don’t give a cat a dog’s product. Cats usually react negatively to items made especially for dogs. This is especially true of flea products. Your cat can die if you use a dog flea product on it. You should keep your cats and dogs separated after using a flea treatment.
If you have an outdoor cat, be sure he or she has a tagged collar. Tags can save you a lot of trouble if your cat gets lost. Be sure the name of your cat and your number can be found on the tag.
Lessen the chances of your cat becoming harmed or killed by spraying all electric cords with something to keep them from chewing it. Bitter apple is a good choice and can be found at most pet stores. You can also cover your cords under a rug or tape them to walls. If you have loose electrical cords, you can bundle them up and stow them away in a cardboard tube (think toilet paper or paper towel rolls). All thin cords should be put up when you’re not using them.
A cat’s claws can do significant damage to your home and belongings. You need to get a scratching post or a cat tower to prevent your cat from ruining your furniture. Teach your cat to scratch this instead of the legs of a couch or sofa. This approach takes time, but it usually works.
If you have to travel with a cat you should remember their ears. You cat is used to being at home and it might shock him to hear you singing at the top of your lungs. So, keep your volume down, or turn it off to give your cat a better travel experience.
A tablecloth should be made for your cats. Cats often like to remove food from their bowl to eat it off to the side. This leaves food on the floor outside their bowl that must be cleaned. A simpler way to do this is by getting a place-mat and placing it under their bowl. You can also cut some fabric to make a tablecloth that can be lifted, washed, or shaken over a trash can.
Pay attention and try to figure out what is causing your cat to meow. If you have spent any significant amount of time around your cat, you will quickly find you can figure out what he wants when he cries. Maybe she wants to go out, or maybe she wants to eat. Getting to know your cats cues will help you to interpret her meows.
Litter Box
Don’t think that you can teach a cat to use its litter box. This should come naturally for your cat. You cannot teach it to do this. Some cat owners believe they should expose their cat to the litter box and rub its paws into the litter; however, this may actually have the opposite effect and make your cat scared of it.
You should now be able to step outside of your residence and defend against stray cats invading your yard. Cats can make great companions. Of course, you have to remember that cats can be sensitive so they need to be carefully cared for. When you discover the perfect cat to join your family, you had best be ready for it!
